Fall is one of my favourite seasons, not just because of the beautiful colours the trees turn into, but also the decor that comes along with it. Gold is very popular right now, but it can be so pricey to purchase gold fall decor from the store. I was recently at a store in my city and was shocked by the price tag on a glass pumpkin that was gold toned. I thought to myself, I could easily do my own fall decor for the fraction of the cost! After a trip to my local hardware store and another trip to the dollar store, I had my few items in hand and was ready to turn something “cheap” into “chic”!
What You’ll Need
1 can of gold metallic lacquer spray paint
1 glass pumpkin w/ lid ($1.50 at dollar store)
Assorted small hollow pumpkins/pine cones ($2 at dollar store)
- Make sure you do this outside or in a well vented area. Lay out your cardboard and newspaper to protect your work area. Make sure to wear vinyl gloves to protect your hands and the pieces.
- Shake paint can well! Do one piece at a time by spraying about 8 – 11 inches away from the item. Use gentle, even horizontal or vertical strokes to coat one layer at a time.
- Let dry and complete with a second layer.
It’s important to do layers so the paint doesn’t drip or streak. Let dry for a couple of hours. Spray paint dries fairly quickly (within minutes!) but it’s best to leave to dry for at least a couple hours to make sure it’s not tacky in spots.
Your pumpkin and fall decor pieces are now super chic! You can fill the pumpkin with candies or even some of the pinecones for a cute decor look . Search around the house and revamp old pieces into stunning gold masterpieces! Arrange the decor pieces in a glass dish to make a fabulous centre piece. This is such an affordable way to turn tacky fall pieces into beautiful decor pieces that will better accent your home and bring some style into your life.
Hint, hint! This would be a great way to do a chic Fall wreath!!
There is SO much you can do with a can of gold spray paint. I can’t wait to find some more items to give new life to!
