With all of the technology that is available to kids now-a-days, it can sometimes be hard to encourage them to break away from the screens and enjoy using their imaginations, the outdoors, more in-person socialization and creative play without electronics. Thankfully, we have rules in our house in regards to electronics and my kids are only allowed to play them for a certain amount of time on the weekends. No electronics during the school week, unless necessary for school work as requested by the teacher. It works great for us and my kids are much healthier because of it.
One thing my kids absolutely love to do, especially my son, is play board games! My son loves the strategy and skill that board games often require and we love having family game nights where we all sit down together and play. We love collecting board games, but it can be hard to find a one-stop shop for all of our board game needs, and at reasonable prices. We not only love new board games, but we love the classics too! They’re always a must have when we sit down with snacks and enjoy some friendly competition as a family.
I was so thrilled to learn about Rinuu.com – a new, Canadian board game and toy retailer that not only has some of the newest board games, but many of the classics too! Their selection is incredible and there is something for everyone, of all ages. Rinuu makes it easy to browse and search for any board game you’re looking for and shipping is so quick. Just add your selections to the “cart” and you can checkout within minutes. It’s so easy!

When I first started browsing their site, I was happily overwhelmed with the selection. So many games to choose from! It was hard to narrow it down because there were just so many that we wanted to try. I did manage to find some great board games to play with the family and we have been having so much fun these past two weeks with our newest additions to our board game collection.
Both kids really enjoy playing Equilibrio. It takes patience and skill to using the different shaped building blocks to create the masterpieces shown in the manual. Don’t be fooled, they may look easy, but it definitely isn’t always so simple. Balance is key!
Animal Upon Animal
This is one of my daughter’s new favourites! This fun and colourful stacking game is easy for all ages. I like how simple and calm this game is, which is great for nights when we want to play a game that doesn’t take too much thought or strategy. The wooden animal pieces are so cute and full of colour. The concept is easy – roll the dice and stack the animals into a pyramid without it falling. Made in Germany, this game is for 2 – 4 players and includes 29 wooden animal pieces, 1 die with symbols and a set of game instructions.
I love learning about games that I haven’t heard of before and Katamino is one of them. What a fun game! It reminds me of Tetris (but pieces are made of 5 squares instead of 4) and it consists of 12 different shaped/coloured wooden pieces. It’s a 2 or 3 players strategy game that really gets you thinking. The board is divided into 64 smaller squares and the board is split into 2 sections. Each players chooses 5 blocks and are given 4 small “filler” blocks of 1 and 2 squares. The concept is simple – the first player to fit ALL their blocks perfectly into their half of the board wins! Sounds easy right? Well, it’s not always so simple and you have to think wisely about where you place your pieces. It’s strategic for sure. I love the simplicity of the game pieces itself, but the complexity of the actual game process. My son loves to play this with me and my husband and I enjoy playing it after the kids have gone to bed.
A classic favourite, but with 2 more new moves! I always wanted Twister when I was kid, but never had the chance of owning it. I loved playing this at friend’s houses and I’m thrilled that my kids now own the game. It’s such a simple, yet fun game that gets everyone involved and laughing. We laugh SO much when we play this. Spin the wheel and place your feet or hands on the mat where the wheel tells you to. Things get tangled up FAST and you have to make sure not to fall. We like to play music while we’re playing. It’s even great to do outdoors on the grass in the summer. This game is great for all ages, which makes it a family favourite in our house.
POP! Secret Life of Pets – Gidget
Rinuu also has a selection of toys to choose from. This stylized POP vinyl from Funko! figure stands 3 3/4 inches and comes in a window display box. The details are remarkable and she resembles Gidget from Secret Life of Pets exactly! My daughter loves this Gidget POP! figure and it’s a great collection item to have from the film. There are also other character figures to collect!
Pokemon XY Evolutions
My son loves to collect and trade Pokemon. This trading card game has been around for years and has recently made a huge comeback. My son has a binder to sort and organize his cards and he was thrilled to receive this 3 Booster Blister Card Game with cards he doesn’t own yet. Although I don’t always understand how Pokemon works, my son is well versed in it and really enjoys the powers of the Pokemon characters and matching them up against others when playing with friends.
With the exhilarating power of Mega Venusaur-EX, Mega Charizard-EX, and Mega Blastoise-EX, plus some wild surprises like Dragonite-EX, Ninetales BREAK, Machamp BREAK, and Mega Slowbro-EX, the classic hard-battling Pokémon and old-school Trainers are reinvented for a new generation.
The Game of Life
We have always wanted this game and it’s another game that I wanted as a kid but never owned. We are so happy to own this game now and my kids have played it almost daily. Marriage, kids, college, work, etc. This game has it all, even payday, bankruptcy, stocks and real estate! You never know how your life will go in this game and every time you play, your life can go in a different direction. I love how the game is ready to play right out of the box and there aren’t any pieces to have to put together first. The board is foldable for easy storage and the spinning wheel makes it easy to know where to move around the board. This is going to be a board game that gets plenty of play for years to come.
Family game night has is even more exciting thanks to our new board games from Rinuu! Check out Rinuu.com and their wide selection of board games for the whole family. While you’re there, be sure to take the “Which Board Game Are You” Quiz for fun. My result was Monopoly – so fitting! It’s one of my all time favourite board games.
Happy Board Gaming!
