The winter months have felt long and cold recently. It always seems exciting at the beginning of winter, with the promise of festive holidays, tobogganing, snow forts, skating and more, but that excitement gradually changes as the months drag on and the anticipation of spring sets in.
We have had a glimpse of spring weather this past week and it has our family anxiously excited for the official arrival of spring and warmer weather. As much as we do enjoy many winter activities, the fluctuating weather this winter made it hard to go tobogganing as much as we would have liked and resulted in a failed attempt at an ice rink, due to the temperature changes from one day to the next. Not to mention, the fluctuating temperatures also resulted in vicious ice patches all over our area because of the constant melting and freezing.
We are watching The Weather Network like hawks lately, assessing the temperatures and anxiously awaiting spring’s arrival. Thanks to The Weather Network’s Spring Forecast, we can mark it on our calendars, celebrate warmer weather ahead and start making plans!
Spring brings along sunshine, warmth, new growth and chirping birds. Those are the first signs of spring that I eagerly look forward to every year, and even more so this year. We already have plans of getting outdoors for hikes, football, road trips, biking and lots of garden prep! One of my favourite and most relaxing things to do is to garden. I spend a lot of time in my garden during the warmer months and spring is a time of renewal and preparation, turning it into an oasis that I can enjoy all summer long. I’m always excited to see the first growths of my plants starting to pop up come spring and it really does help to boost our spirits to get outside in the warmer weather and get active.
BBQ weather isn’t too far off and we are already getting prepped so it is ready to go. We enjoyed a BBQ dinner at my parent’s already this past weekend and it was amazing – putting us in the mood for BBQ food this spring and summer.
Since we have a furry new addition to the family this Spring, we are looking forward to enjoying the warm weather watching little Lucy pounce around and get to know her big brother Freddie even better while using her strong hound nose to sniff all of the wonders that the outdoors have to offer. I’m sure the dogs are going to be excited for spring as well, since it means no more ice and no risks of slipping or getting ice in their paws. It’s going to be an active spring for everyone, humans and pets alike!
No matter if the weather is cold, warm, sunny or rainy, we are always prepared by visiting The Weather Network and by using their app. The Precip Stop Start feature makes it makes it even easier to plan out our days and activities based on what the weather is going to be like. It’s nice to have a heads up so that we can plan accordingly. Here’s what the Precip Stop Start feature looks like:
The Weather Network’s Spring Forecast is predicting some fluctuating weather before spring officially arrives. It looks like another year of El Niño and late bouts of winter may still hit parts of the country through March.
El Niño is characterized by warmer than normal Equatorial Pacific Ocean waters and La Niña, cooler than normal waters in the same area.
I’m looking forward to spring’s arrival and I’m excited that the Spring 2017 Forecast shows near normal temperatures for my own area, which gives me hope that there won’t be too many unexpected surprises ahead of us with the weather! For those of you who live in other parts of the country, this is what you can expect:
Spring can’t come soon enough for us! I can’t wait to get outdoors with the kids and enjoy the warmth of the sunshine that we so desperately need after the gloomy, cold months of winter. We are sure to have lots of fun with the activities we have planned and hope to try some new things out as well this year.
