Disclosure: I am participating in the FujiFilm Canada campaign managed by SJ Consulting. I received compensation in exchange for my participation in this campaign. The opinions on this blog are my own.
I enjoy taking pictures all year round, but it definitely amps up during the holiday season. The memories and magical moments that I want to capture are endless, and I don’t want to wait for pictures to develop, especially if giving them as part of handmade gifts or handing them out to guests as keepsakes at holiday parties. I want instant pictures so I can enjoy the memories of the season right away, no matter where I am.
Fujifilm has always been my go-to for capturing special moments and events in our lives, and I have always enjoyed their instant cameras for times when I want photo keepsakes instantly and on the go. As much as I love their instant cameras that I already own, like the instax Mini 70 and instax Mini 8, I have been craving even more in an instant camera that combines the best of both worlds – an instant camera AND a digital camera. I want to be able to see the photo I have taken on the screen first, have the option to edit them and print instantly.
instax SQUARE SQ10
The instax SQUARE SQ10 definitely combines the best of those worlds. It’s a hybrid instant camera with instant print and digital technologies. You get the control and composition of a digital camera, along with the fun and instant enjoyment of an instant camera. Capture, edit memories and print them right away for beautiful, stylish square photos that are the perfect size. I really love the square instant photos. At 86 x 72mm, they are a larger size than the instax Mini film (86 x 54mm) and make a huge difference in the overall quality and appearance of the pictures. The FUJIFILM Instant Film “instax SQUARE” is sold separately and comes in packs of 10 prints.
I love how compact and sleek the design of this camera is. It’s not overly bulky considering all of the features it holds and it’s quite comfortable to grip. There is the option to add a tripod which is a feature I appreciate for those times when you need to be hands-free or for timed family photos. A date and time stamp option helps you to never forget a specific moment in time and there are 5 selectable flash settings so that your pictures always come out their best.
I absolutely love being able to take multiple photos and they will store onto the camera’s internal memory (up to 50 photos) or storage media until I choose to edit or print them later. There are 2 modes to choose from with this camera: manual and automatic. You can have your pictures print right away automatically or choose manual mode to print them when you are ready to. I prefer manual mode so that it gives me an opportunity to make sure the picture is the best quality before printing. The TFT colour LCD monitor lets me view the photos clearly so that I can determine if any editing needs to be done and so that I can clearly see what different image effects look like when applied to my pictures.
The image effects allow you to have some extra fun. There are filters, vignettes and brightness adjustment so you can tweak your photos to how you like. I have a lot of fun with the partial filter feature. It’s really cool to see pops of colour (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple) against a black and white background. If my image is too bright or I am taking pictures on days where lighting isn’t in my favour, I can adjust the brightness to lighten the image or even darken a bit if the picture is too light.
There are also different shooting modes to choose from, which is another reason why I enjoy the instax SQUARE SQ10 so much. You aren’t limited to just one style of shooting. It allows you to get creative and add personality to your photos through your shooting style. It features double exposure, bulb exposure and even built-in macro.
When you want to be artsy, take pictures at night or get in on those SUPER close details, there is a shooting mode to help you achieve that.
Other features I really like that they have included with this camera are the left and right double shutter buttons. No more fumbling around to take the picture, you can have it on both sides. You also have the option to customize that feature for function buttons to switch between shooting modes. I prefer to leave it on the double shutter buttons, because I am so bad for missing out on great photos sometimes simply because my fingers fumble around and waste time trying to find the shutter button.
For photos, I can quickly edit them with the easy-to-use command buttons located on the back of the camera underneath where the LCD viewing screen is. The buttons are labelled with small images to help you distinguish what each feature is and there is even a dial wheel in the middle to help you easily and better control back and forth between your selections.
The battery is rechargeable up to 160 prints per charge. That is a LONG time. I really do appreciate the fact that the battery lasts so long between charges, so you don’t experience too much downtime in between taking pictures. Charging doesn’t take long at all either, so you don’t have to wait for hours on end to wait to have access to your camera.
If you’re on the hunt for a camera that combines an instant camera and digital camera into one, with the ability to store photos, edit, zoom, have fun, instantly print and encourage your creativity, then you will definitely want to check out the instax SQUARE SQ10.
instax SHARE SP-3 Printer
For instantly printing photos from my phone, the Fujifilm instax SHARE SP-3 printer is truly amazing. To be honest, I am slightly addicted to it! It’s so incredibly easy to print photos and the addictive part comes from having instant access to my favourite images that I want to print right away.
I love watching the white surface on the film gradually change into the colourful picture I have selected to print. It’s my kid’s favourite part of the whole process.
It comes in 2 different colours (white or black) and is quite modern looking with its edgy design. It takes up minimal space since it isn’t very big in size, so I have it sitting on my counter close by to where I charge my phone.
The instax SHARE SP-3 printer is easy to use. Download the free INSTAX SHARE app from the Apple Store or Google Play on your phone and you will have access to editing tools and wireless printing directly from your device to the printer. It uses the same FUJIFILM Instant Film “instax SQUARE” that the instax SQUARE SQ10 camera uses to create beautiful, retro-style square photos. The dotted lights across the top of the printer indicate how many film prints you have left.
Not only can you print images wirelessly to the SP-3 printer from your phone, but you can also print images from social media sharing sites Instagram, Facebook, Google Photos, flickr and Dropbox.
Select your best shots from your smartphone and get instax prints by transferring the shots from the app to the SP-3 via a Wi-Fi connection. Does it print fast? Oh yes, it sure does! 13 seconds to be exact. Is it quiet? Yep, it definitely is! You can barely hear it, aside form a low hum as it miraculously prints out colourful, beautiful images in seconds. I am blown away by the high image quality in the photos. Instant photos have come a long way thanks to Fujifilm, and the print pixels of 800 x 800 dots and 318 dpi with this instax printer prove that in every amazing detail that it manages to capture in the finished print.
I have so much fun with the instax app by adding silly and creative text to my photos and different filters. I like that it makes the memory more personal and organized when looking back on pictures. You can make collages and split images, as well as use the limited template to number photos that are part of a sequence. Those are just a few examples of the fun templates available.
Aside from printing instant pictures just to keep, I love using the prints as a creative way to give gifts to my family and to incorporate into our home decor during the holiday season. There are so many crafty ways to incorporate instant pictures into your life and one of the ways I chose to do so was by making a special decoration for our family tree of a beloved family pet that passed last year. She is always in our thoughts and memories, and by simply attaching her instant photo to a mini stocking, letting my kids decorate it with holiday-themed items, we now have a beautiful decoration for the tree to cherish in her honour.
I am going to be stocking up on FUJIFILM Instant Film “instax SQUARE” because I am having so much fun with my instax SQUARE SQ10 and instax SHARE SP-3 printer. It’s is an extra special holiday for my family this year and I don’t want to miss out on capturing any of the memories that we are going to create. Not to mention, these newest additions from Fujifilm are going to make GREAT gifts this year for my friends and family who love instant photos just as much as I do.
