I love the transition from Fall into Winter and how the changing seasons naturally bring different flavours in food that compliment this change. When I think of cold weather and the holidays, I think of warm flavours and aromas. Cinnamon goes hand in hand with the holidays, and nutmeg also compliments much of the cooking and baking I do around this time.
With the holidays, comes gatherings and celebrations. This means lots of family and friends visit during this time of year and food is a big focal point of entertaining. I love appetizers and bite-size snacks that can be prepared quickly and also at the last minute when unexpected guests drop by. We ALWAYS have Triscuit crackers in our cupboard at all times, all year round. There are so many versatile ways that we enjoy Triscuit crackers and during the holidays we have even more ways to enjoy Triscuit thanks to their Limited Edition Nutmeg & Cinnamon flavour.
This holiday, I will be serving Salted Caramel & Pear Triscuit crackers, as well as Fig & Walnut Triscuit crackers – both using the Limited Edition Nutmeg & Cinnamon Triscuit flavour. These fruit flavours go perfectly with nutmeg and cinnamon, and the cream cheese really ties it all together for a sweet and savoury appetizer.

Course or flaked sea salt
Spread a generous amount of cream cheese on each Triscuit cracker. Top with sliced pear, caramel drizzle and light sprinkle of salt, OR top with sliced fig and a walnut piece.
These are SO incredibly easy to prepare and if you have any unexpected guests knock at the door, you can prep these appetizers in just a couple of minutes. They not only look incredible, but they are satisfyingly delicious as well.
For those nights when you are relaxing at home and want a casual snack to enjoy while watching your favourite holiday movie, you can also try one of my family’s favourite Triscuit snacks that we have been enjoying for years. Place a slice of medium cheddar cheese on Triscuit Original or Low Sodium crackers, plus a sliced olive and bake in the oven just until the cheese softens and slightly melts. It only takes a couple of minutes in the oven. It’s simple, but oh so good! The olive adds so much flavour with the cheese and Triscuit crackers add that perfect crunch to each bite.
Holidays don’t have to be stressful. You can keep things simple without compromising fun, taste and laughter. As long as you marry the right flavours together, the most delicious snacks and foods can be the most simplest.
